Ingredients
Here is the full list of all ingredients needed for this recipe. For precise measurements please look at the recipe card.
- Red tart cherries: Rich in nutrients, including fiber, vitamin A, C, K, manganese, potassium, etc. I used frozen cherries for this smoothie recipe.
- Dark cherries: As red tart cherries, dark cherries are rich in nutrients and antioxidants. Since it’s always easier to have frozen fruit on hand, I used frozen dark cherries.
- Banana: Adding a little bit of natural sugar. Also, a smoothie will have a nice, creamy consistency.
- Mango chunks: Another excellent fruit for smoothies. It’s low in calories yet high in nutrients – especially vitamin C, which aids immunity and iron absorption.
- Milk: Since I am not following any specific diet, I used whole milk. Usually, that’s what I have on hand, but you can substitute it for any other milk you prefer.
- Maple syrup: This is an optional ingredient. I like this smoothie with or without maple syrup, depending on if I would like it sweeter or not.

Expert Tips and Tricks
- Use a high-powered blender: Since we primarily use frozen fruit for this recipe, I recommend a high-powered blender for more effortless blending.
- Prepare toppings in advance: If you would like to add some toppings to your smoothie bowl, please prepare those in advance so your smoothie does not melt.
- Don’t over-blend: The key is to avoid over-blending the ingredients when making a smoothie bowl. Otherwise, this will make a watery and thin smoothie.
Substitutions and Variations
- Make it vegan: Use the dairy-free milk of your choice. Some great options are oat milk and soy milk.
- Use a sweetener: If you prefer to add sweetness to your smoothie, add some maple or agave syrup.
- Use different fruit: I used the sweet and tart cherries combo, but you can adjust the ratio if you want. You can also swap some cherries for other fruit like plums or apricots.
- Adjust the liquid amount: This smoothie will be thick, so if you prefer a thinner smoothie and serve it in a glass instead, add more liquid. Add ¼ of the cup of liquid and see what consistency works best for you.
- Make it more nutritious: Add some hemp or chia seeds for a more filling smoothie bow.
Storage
I recommend eating this smoothie bowl right away. If you want to avoid leftovers, half the recipe so you have only one portion.
