Ingredients

Blue spirulina smoothie ingredients.
  • Pineapple: I used frozen pineapple chunks. I love using frozen fruit in smoothies because it’s so convenient and more accessible throughout the year.
  • Peaches: I also used frozen peaches, sliced into smaller pieces. Some health benefits of eating peaches are improved digestion, boosting an immune system, decreasing inflammation, and many more.
  • Banana: I used half a fresh banana for added creaminess and natural sugar.
  • Blue Spirulina Powder: I used a blue spirulina powder by POPJOY. I got it on Amazon. I have no affiliation with their brand. I love using it and will always recommend products I use in my recipes. Their blue spirulina is vegan, dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and paleo. You can easily add it to your diet by adding a teaspoon to your smoothie, lattes, etc. It will give you a beautiful blue hue from the blue-green algae, and there is no algae aftertaste. Read the following article about spirulina benefits to learn more.
  • Milk: I used oat milk, but feel free to use any milk of your preference.

Whether you want to make a smoothie bowl or drink it from a jar or glass, it’s straightforward to make it. Follow the next steps:

Expert Tips and Tricks

  • Use a high-powered blender: Since most ingredients are frozen, you will need a high-powered blender. I used the Nutri Bullet blender, which required a few shakes to blend all the frozen fruit thoroughly. You might need to scrape the sides of your blender to help with blending.
  • Adjust the liquid amount accordingly: This smoothie will already be thicker since most of the fruit is frozen. But, if using fresh fruit, start with less liquid and add more if needed.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Add greens: This smoothie is already packed with lots of nutrients, but you can always add a handful of greens of your choice. Some of my favorites are kale, spinach, and arugula. Although arugula has a little spicy kick, be mindful of that.
  • Add nuts: For added omega-3 intake, add nuts of your choice. Almonds are a great option.
  • Use different milk: If you are not vegan or don’t like oat milk, feel free to substitute it with milk of your choice.
  • Use different liquids altogether: Not a fan of milk? Use water or juice of your preference. Please note that the juice flavor might affect the taste of the smoothie.
  • Make a blue spirulina smoothie bowl: If you prefer to have a smoothie bowl, add less liquid. Start with ⅓ cup of oat milk and add more if needed. Add your favorite fresh fruit and other toppings, and you will have a beautiful smoothie bowl that’s also healthy and nutritious—dragon fruit is one of the great options to add.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this smoothie in a jar or glass and drink it with a straw. If you prefer a smoothie bowl, add less liquid to create a thicker smoothie. Add other fresh fruit, nuts, or seeds to make a beautiful and perfect smoothie bowl.

Storage

For the best taste and consistency, this smoothie is the best when enjoyed fresh. You will have one large or two smaller portions with the number of ingredients used for this recipe.
