Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Seasonal Flavor Fusion: This mocktail combines the rich, cozy flavors of apple cider and brown sugar, making it taste like autumn in every sip. The lemon-ginger seltzer adds a refreshing twist, keeping it balanced and light.
  • Perfect for Any Occasion: Whether it’s a holiday party, a family gathering, or a quiet evening by the fireplace, this mocktail is a versatile, crowd-pleasing option everyone can enjoy.
  • Non-Alcoholic but Still Festive: This fun and flavorful alternative to traditional cocktails is ideal for those looking for an alcohol-free option without sacrificing the festive vibes.
  • Easy to Make: This mocktail requires only a few ingredients and can be made in minutes. No fancy equipment or hard-to-find ingredients are needed.
  • Light and Refreshing Twist: The addition of lemon-ginger seltzer brings a sparkling, refreshing element to the rich apple cider and brown sugar syrup, making each sip feel bright and uplifting while enhancing the cozy fall flavors.

Ingredients

Apple cider mocktail ingredients.
  • Apple Cider: Apple cider is a star ingredient for this mocktail. The apple cider you pick will affect the mocktail’s flavor. Look for unfiltered and pasteurized apple cider.
  • Seltzer Water: I love using Trader Joe’s lemon and ginger seltzer water. If you cannot find it, look for other brands with similar flavors.

See recipe card for quantities.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Swap the Lemon-Ginger Seltzer: For a different bubbly twist, try using ginger ale or sparkling apple juice. Both add a touch of sweetness and a unique twist to the classic apple cider flavor.
  • Add Warm Spices: If you’d like a hint of spice, add a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, or even a cinnamon stick garnish. These spices enhance the fall flavor and make the mocktail feel extra cozy.
  • Try Pear Cider Instead: For a slightly sweeter, mellower flavor, swap out the apple cider for pear cider. It pairs beautifully with the brown sugar syrup, creating a subtle twist on the original.
  • Adjust the Sweetness: To lighten the sweetness, reduce the apple brown sugar syrup or omit it if your cider is already sweet. A splash of lemon juice adds brightness for more balance, while unsweetened seltzer keeps the drink bubbly without extra sweetness. For those who like it very sweet, 1 oz of apple syrup was the perfect balance.
  • Use Maple Syrup: For a deeper, more caramel-like sweetness, replace the apple brown sugar syrup with a drizzle of maple syrup. It blends seamlessly with the apple cider and adds a rich, warm note.
  • Garnish with Fresh Herbs: A sprig of rosemary or thyme can add a subtle, aromatic touch to the drink. Not only do herbs elevate the presentation, but they also introduce a fresh, earthy note that complements the cider.

Pro Tip

Always use fresh ingredients, especially freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Expert Tips and Tricks

  • Chill the Ingredients: For the freshest flavor, ensure the apple cider, seltzer, and glassware are well-chilled before serving. This keeps the mocktail cold without needing too much ice, which could dilute the flavors.
  • Use Fresh Apple Cider: For the richest taste, choose fresh, unfiltered apple cider whenever possible. Its natural sweetness and tartness add depth to the mocktail that store-bought juice can’t quite match.
  • Serve with Crushed Ice. Crushed ice keeps the drink extra cold and adds a fun, festive texture. It’s perfect for a more relaxed, rustic presentation.
  • Enhance with a Cinnamon Rim: For a festive touch, lightly dip the rim of each glass in lemon juice and coat it with a mix of cinnamon and sugar. This adds a warm, spiced note to every sip, making the presentation feel extra special for fall gatherings.
  • Make the Syrup Ahead: Prepare the apple brown sugar syrup in advance to save time and allow the flavors to meld. Store it in the fridge for up to a few weeks, and add it to other fall-inspired drinks!

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this mocktail ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the apple brown sugar syrup and chill the apple cider in advance. However, to keep the seltzer bubbly and fresh, wait to add it until just before serving.

Is it possible to make this a warm drink?

Yes! To enjoy a cozy, warm version, heat the apple cider and brown sugar syrup together, then add a splash of lemon juice. Skip the seltzer and garnish with a cinnamon stick for a comforting twist.

How do I pick the best apple cider for this mocktail?

Look for fresh, unfiltered apple cider from a local orchard or farmer’s market. This type typically has the most robust apple flavor and natural sweetness. Opt for one with minimal added sugars or preservatives to let the pure apple taste shine in your mocktail.
