This refreshing Blueberry Gin Cocktail takes only four ingredients and less than five minutes to make. With many substitutions and variations available, this cocktail is an ideal choice for any occasion!
In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries, water, and sugar.
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let cool down for 10-15 minutes.
Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the solids. Use a spoon to mash the blueberries and thoroughly remove any excess syrup.
Transfer the strained syrup to a clean, sealed glass jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Keep the jam in a separate air-tight jar in a fridge for 2-3 days.
Blueberry Gin Cocktail
If you haven’t already, prepare the blueberry syrup and put the lowball glass into a freezer for 5-10 minutes.
Add ice, blueberry simple syrup, gin, and freshly squeezed lemon juice to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 5-10 seconds.
Pour the cocktail into a chilled glass filled with ice halfway.
Top with carbonated mineral water. Add garnish if preferred; enjoy!
Notes
Prepare the Blueberry Syrup in advance: Preparing the blueberry syrup in advance will drastically reduce preparation time. When stored in an airtight jar or syrup dispenser in a fridge, the syrup can last up to a month.
Choose Quality Ingredients: To ensure the best flavor in your cocktail, choose fresh, ripe blueberries and high-quality gin. This also applies to fresh lemon juice. Fresh ingredients impart a vibrant, natural taste that can't be replicated with artificial substitutes.
Herbal Infusions: Enhance the flavor of your cocktail by infusing gin with fresh herbs like basil, thyme, or rosemary. These herbal notes add depth and sophistication to your drink.
Fizz and Bubbles: Top your cocktail with a splash of sparkling water, like Pellegrino or prosecco, for a refreshing twist. The effervescence adds a playful element, perfect for summer sipping or celebratory toasts.
Mocktail Version: Follow the instructions based on my Blackberry Mocktail, but instead of blackberry syrup, use blueberry syrup to have a refreshing mocktail.
